introducing baby kitty

Marble, my cat, has been quite lonely lately. Thus, we got a brilliant idea to bring a sister into her world. Of course, she hasn’t yet accepted this baby kitten, but we’re still hopeful. They say it should take 2 weeks. Marble has stopped hiding, but still won’t get very close. And while i was sleeping last night, Marble came in to sleep with me and found baby kitty and a little hissing fight broke out on my tummy. Introducing baby kitty….

While she looks like super kitty here, i should note that she’s a little bigger than my hand and curls up between my neck and shoulder. She’s super small.

I should note that baby kitty has no formal name yet. I’m inclined to call her Theo; my roommates are fighting for atrocious and disturbing names. She’s just too precious for that. Still not sure…

Oh, and out of complete cuteness, baby kitty woke me at 7AM by licking my eyelids. If it weren’t 7AM, this would’ve been very very very cute. Baby kitty though is a complete joy. She’s happy, relaxed and still spazzy enough to play at times. Now, i just need to convince Marble that this is her friend.

Here’s how I would introduce them. Temporarily make one room the new kitty’s domain. Marble of course gets the entire rest of your home. Then begin feeding them on either side of the wall or doorway or whatever the barrier is between new kitty’s room and Marble’s territory. Each day bring the food bowls closer, till they find themselves eating together. It worked for my Zoey and Penelope

If one has a Marble, perhaps one should also have a Speckle, or a Stipple, or a Dapple or a Splash.

    Or even a Shooter.

Oh yes — and she’s very, very cute. Also a bit unusual, a marmalade female.

    Hmmm. Marmalade . . .

    (I’ll stop now)

Uh-oh. When I did the same (got a “sister” for a lonely female cat) someone at the vet warned me that females like being the only cat. They were right — for the 10 years or so that I had the 2, they never really got along. They would curl up together in cold weather, but they would also ambush one another regularly. My first cat got banished to the basement, despite all my efforts to the contrary. When the “newcomer” died, my first cat became an affectionate lap cat (again). A complete personality change. She’s clearly much happier without the interloper.

Hi! oh my gosh, now you and I can swap kitty stories. Although there will be this transition for Marble, having 2 cats is so entertaining. You will begin to see how utterly unique each one is, be amazed at the weird games they play, and start noticing their cat ‘talk.’ And just wait until they both want to sleep on your tummy at the same time and they both are full-sized fluff balls…

    🙂

Neal says she looks like Scott. She’s kinda got your coloring d. What you guys been up to? I thought there was a no inter-Amazonia love policy? Congratulations and all.

You could always do what my wife did when she got a kitten that looked *just* like that… she called her “Baby kitty”. 🙂
