ipod sharing

I can’t help but smile every time i see someone with white cords sticking out of their coat pocket. It’s like a dirty sign of solidarity, a fashion marker that bonds you all together. The white cord. The iPod.

Problem is that i hate those little ear things. They never fit into my ears. Thus, i had this weird secret sitting on the BART, listening to my iPod through my big black headphones. Well, as fate would have it, i lost one of the pads for my fancy earphones (which had been falling apart anyhow). So, when i went to buy my Screensavrz, i noticed that they had noise reduction iPod big headphones. Complete with white cord. I bought them. Since the, i’m once again ackowledged by other iPod strangers, back in the cool.

Well, apparently, i’m just not that cool enough. No one has ever asked me to !jack in! to their iPod.

Well, have you ever offered up your iPod for strangers to jack into? iPod jacking is a two-way street! 🙂

Maybe I should start using Lisa’s unused white headphones in my Treo 600, so I can pretend to be cool.

::laugh:: This is me! I get all nervous coming out into the forefront of strangers. I prefer just to watch and react to how people interact with me.

You can do this with any mp3 player, CD player, even cassette walkman. Why is it such a big deal when people do it with overpriced Apple products?

P.S. The Rio Karma has twice the features of the iPod, the same form factor, and is $100 cheaper.

What is interesting is not the fact that it *can* be done, but the fact that it *is* done and that people identify with one another based on shared fashion markers.

i, too, am not a fan of the earbud style headphones. Three reasons: comfort, too quiet, not enough bottom end, and i don’t want to annoy others with the audio bleed. so i use my my bigger sony headphones. or my BIG sony headphones.

but i feel like i am missing out on being part of the iPod culture. I know i always get a smile on my face when i see the white cord running out of someone’s pocket towards their head.

you can have the iPod, but if want to be in the iPod community you need those white cords. I’m going to have check out some of these white corded options. not that i need more headphones (Tina will just shake her head at me) but i want to be cool too! 🙂

    sad, isn’t it? ack!
