We live in a society that is magnifying the need to homogenize while it’s simultanteously telling us that uniqueness is allowed. A homogenous society means obedience to authority, mass merchandise, societal acceptance. The further someone is from the norm, the more difficult it is to build esteem, especially in youth cultures. Read some of Henry Jenkins’ writing on the Columbine murders.

Will do…but it still sounds like the old problem of the herd to me… maybe it’s a lot more internal than we think.
