I really appreciate their explanations. Although some thought otherwise, i do very much respect both companies and all people involved. It was also nice to see some of my issues addressed head on. I do believe that everyone has good intentions and really wants to see a merger be beneficial for everyone. Of course, i’m still concerned. I’m concerned because i think that the greatest effect will be on those who aren’t reading this or any of the other announcements. But only time will tell and i will definitely be watching with great interest.

I’m wondering how and when these people will find out that anything happened. For some, it might be if they’re required to o.k the new TOS. I sort of hope that they never notice because it would mean that the sale of the site didn’t have a huge effect on the culture of the community.
It’s similiar to a foreign entity taking over another (ex: ancient Roman empire vs. the Huns).one can take over and try to change the other (standarized)or control it but allow the old system to keep it’s basic “rule”. both systems have their successes and their failures.
It’s all about content-every business needs content to get readers and the ad money that comes with high usership. The pressure to capture the select group of “content” before one’s competitors may lead to some odd and misshapen partnerships. Arranged marriages are high risk ventures…
i don’t know you…. but i’m a serious fan of ani difranco, which in course, has led me to you, and then out of boredom setting in, to this blog. i have a livejournal, where i complain contantly (www.livejournal.com/users/gerbil1904) but thats besides the point. i just want to thank you, for one, having the ani site, and to saying things that no one else does. i find you very interesting, and your site interesting. thank you danah for taking my boredom away…..
