email bankruptcy

Oh, do i understand Lessig’s circumstance. I made a decision that having a life is more important to me than getting to all of my email and blogs. It’s summer. I want to go outside. I want to have interesting conversations. I can’t do my work without having a life and i can’t have a life if i’m only working. I must strike a balance. I always think it’s a bit odd when people purport to be social scientists who never leave their office or cultural theorists who never watch mainstream media.

I couldn’t agree more Danah, far better to live life than simply to report on it. That’s why when I finished my honours year in Australia I moved to Ho Chi Minh City where I am constantly challenged by everything that happens in the environment that I share with 8 or 9 milion other souls. Teaching here is another challenge, but enjoyable all the same.
I have to admit that ithas been a while since I visited your blog. I love the new look and I particularly like the new image of yourself as it is very “zany” if you will forgive my terminology. You look so happy.
    Cheers – roy

Does this mean we should buy into Mr. Gates idea of charging(even a few cents) per email? Would reduce the number of emails but…

And then i wouldn’t email at all and everything would move to the phones quicker than it already is. Frankly, that would kill email on an entirely new level. If i had to pay for them, i would never write back to the strangers who contact me or engage in personal dialogue with people who comment on my blog. I don’t use email to talk to my closest friends (except around planning or mass information or passing of information). My conversations with folks occur either in person, via phone or via AIM. And the spammers who are making millions would be perfectly fine spending a few cents. Very stupid idea Mr. Gates.
