flash mobs

Email messages are encouraging people to create flash mobs in New York - crowds that come together for 10 minutes and then disperse. This is an intriguing social phenomenon.

Andrew:

A couple of weeks ago, the umpteenth public commission looking for ways to update the famously ugly Boston City Hall Plaza gave up in defeat. The only thing they could agree on was to build a six hundred car parking garage under the desolation of brick.

I have never understood why they don't just replace all those bricks with grass. That small inexpensive step would instantly transform a harsh windy no-mans land into a welcoming source of cool air and oxygen.

Perhaps they need to be inspired by a smart mob armed with rolls of sod.
