Peace Rally Speech by Charlotte Aldebron, age 12
I’ve been speaking up a lot since September 11. On February 12, I wrote an essay for school saying that we care more about the American flag than about living up to what it stands for. On March 22, I told Senator Snowe’s staff in Presque Isle that you grown ups were hypocrites because you tell kids to solve problems with words, while you kill people in Afghanistan. On March 28, I said the same thing to Senator Collins in person. She told me that because we invaded Afghanistan, little girls can go to school and learn to read. Some choice: learn to read, or have a mom and a dad.
What if Turkey Agrees? So, what will happen if Turkey eventually strikes a deal with the United States to let it use Turkish bases? Once war starts, this deal could mean disaster for everyone involved.
Strong recommendation: watch a Frontline special that aired on PBS this past weekend that will be re-aired tomorrow (Thursday) night at 9 PM on PBS Channel 9. According to the rec, it presents a compelling and unbiassed account of both sides of the war issues. If you can't catch it on TV and don't mind the small screen, you can watch the entire thing online.
Robert Byrd's speech to the Senate is an articulate statement against war by the longtime Democratic Senator from West Virginia.

Some of you may be familiar with Scott Ritter, a former UN Inspector who has been speaking out against the possible war with Iraq for many months. He'll be on the SFSU campus this week.
